No sis, if I tell you the number of sleep methods and remedies that I tried that didn’t work, you would cuddle me and give me a moment to remain in the fetal position. But after avid research, I was able to find lineage tricks that after one month of being persistent, now have my 4-month-old napping in the day, and sleeping 6 hours minimum at night.
This blog post will teach you 5 ways to help your newborn sleep through the night and allow you to be a well-rested mom.
Let's TALK ABOUT IT SIS..
- No Owls
Here’s an obvious one, that you may have heard before but seriously applies. Sleep when the baby sleeps, until their schedule is where you want it.
A tired mom can’t stick to a plan like this, you will need your rest.
- Feeding
If your baby is over 2 months old, this is a game changer. For evening feeds, give your baby half an ounce more than what they’ve had throughout the day. A full baby is a sleepy baby. An extra half ounce for bedtime feeds prevented Alína from feeling hungry throughout the night.
- wind down
Wind down-time. An hour before bed, begin to create a space that is cosy with dim lighting. Wind down time can be soft quiet bed time stories with soft inside yet exciting voices. Make bed time songs fun but an incitation to welcome in sleep.
- Bath Time
Give your little one a bath at least 45 minutes before you want your baby to call it a night. Make that bath nice and warm with lots of fun quiet play and bedtime songs! Now at 6 weeks, your baby will probably still not understand the routine, but bath time is a great place to start a fun routine.
- music
You would be surprised on how well babies connect songs with their schedules. We have a song for our mornings, diaper changing time, and bed time.We started this from when Alina turnt 8 weeks, and now, at 16 weeks, Alína associates nap time with a song, and falls asleep within minutes of it playing.
- BONUS- Patience
NO baby is the same, have patience on yourself, the process, and your baby. This is not magic. Seeing results took time, but it took our consistency and patience. Never forget that you got this and just like your baby, your learning too… Be open to changing strategies to suit your flow and your angels.
bonus BONUS tip
NEVER wake a sleeping baby!
For feeding time during the night. Place your little one close and comfortably in your arms and place your nipple or the bottle nipple in their mouth.
There is NO need to wake them. And if you want to be like me, trust your babies instincts. When they're hungry they will wake up for a meal.
If your baby is comfortably sleeping for less than 6 hours, let that baby sleep sis!
