5 Reasons Why You Need To Drive to Your Family Vacation Destination.

Once Upon A Time I Hated Driving 2 our Vacation Spot...

As a Londoner, anything longer than a 4 hour drive, deserves a plane.I have never been a fan of driving anywhere to vacation, until having a newborn. After a weeks vacation in Washington DC, I quickly learnt the benefits of driving with a newborn when heading on a vacation. Here are 5 key benefits to driving with a Newborn when planning to vacation.

1. The Perfect Noise- White Noise

I realized so quickly how the perfect sounds of white noise trumps any form of baby music or soothing sounds toys create.

We left for DC super early in the AM which completely disrupted AlĂna’s sleep. She ended up waking up in hysterics. But once we got in the car and got rolling, AlĂna was out like a light. She literally slept until the car stopped and that happened to be perfect timing because by time we stopped it was time for her to have a bottle. By time we got rolling again, AlĂna was fast asleep in minutes of us hitting the interstate #WhiteNoise4TheWin.

2. Convenient Bathroom Breaks

Unlike planes, cars give you the leisure to not only take multiple routes to your destination, but have the option to stop and start your trip at any point you choose. Driving to your family vacation means that you are completely free to cater to your baby at their pace. Every new mom knows this is a #WIN!

Driving 7 hours to Washington DC

My husband and I have a thing of trying to go to random locations during and outside of work. Well thanks to you all following us and showing consistent love, we were chosen to go to Washington and share our experience of how they cater to its visiting families.

3 Must-Do's 4 Families With a Newborn Heading to DC.

1. Get a rental car: I know I've said so much about the benefits of driving to your family destination but I can't express how beneficial it was when we was in the city and AlĂna fell asleep in the car. Instead of booking tickets for site tours, we was able to see the city during and after AlĂna's nap time, which made our adventures stress-free.

2. Head to all the major monuments: Most of the must-see monuments in Washington are outdoor. For me, this was a big deal. I was able to feel safe while getting around with AlĂna. Social distancing was definitely easy and we were able to get a bunch of pics without the worry of getting too close to other people. On top of that, the monuments we saw were absolutely breath taking and the selfie queen in me, loved that you could see the monument from multiple angles.

3. Head to an indoor outdoor restaurant. I loved DC during the summer, it gave us the chance to choose to sit outside. Not only did I feel safe from my daughter potentially coming into contact with people but, most of the restaurants in DC have an amazing view. This goes for both the roof top and street view restaurants.

3. Take the Scenic Route

Its great to look down from a plane and see everything from a birds eye view, but it’s also super cool to be able to drive through those beautiful sites.

I made my car vacation into a moment for the scrap books. There wasn’t a lot to see from Knoxville to Washington but we still found ourselves stoping off and taking pictures in the cool spots we saw while driving.

Having that memory of your newborns first “road trip pictures” is definitely worth the extra stops.

4. The 24/7 Access to Transportation

Flying and then renting a car can get expensive, quickly! But when you drive to your family destination, it can work out to be significantly cheaper and easier when with a newborn.

I loved the convenience of cleaning out the car and sanitizing it without having to worry about attempting to do that to a row of seats on an airplane, bus or train. We had 24/7 access too a vehicle we cleaned and kept clean for the sake of the baby.

5. Temperature control

Newborns body temperatures are different from ours. After having your baby for a few months, most mommas have an idea of what their baby enjoys as a comfortable temperature. When you’re on the plane you’re not able to control the temperature like you can your car. Driving is a great way to keep the temperature comfortable for your baby and ultimately help prevent the from picking up a potential cough or sniffle.

Benefits of Driving for Mom

As mentioned earlier, I am all about flying to your vaca destination but there were three essential things I realized about the benefits of driving with your new born to vacation spot.

Mommy benefits of driving 2 your vacation destination

1. Space: Let's face it, the baby's stuff takes up 99.9% of the space in the stroller let alone on plane. If your in the mood to splurge and fly, I'd always advice getting an extra seat for luggage space or upgrading your seat. But if you're working with a tighter budget, driving give you the option to upsize on space without breaking the bank.
2. Mommy Time: With the white noise helping to leave the baby having a great long nap, get your parter to drive and catch up on some reading, tv, a podcast or jus straight up sleep! But be sure to take full advantage of your chance to get a bit of you time.
3. Hastle-free: The hardest thing with flying was finding gates with all the additional luggage to drag along. A car makes for a great hassle free on and off boarding when you arrive to your destination.
