The Letter: Dear Alina,
You get more and more beautiful
the older you get and you are growing so quick! Your daddy and I have brought multiple outfits for you over the last few months and most of them you only wore once.
I’ve also watched you learn so much! You love puzzles and love your pop up books but more than anything else, you love Akili. I was always worried that if we got you hooked on any YouTube or tv show, it would hold you back from learning, but I was wrong. Your favourite show is giving you more and more confidence to speak and even sing!
For your first birthday
I wanted your theme to be unicorns. You love your unicorn book and I had so many cute ideas on outfits and themes, but Akili and Me got those plans in check very quickly. As myself and your dad have watched you grow and see how much you adore that show, we knew it would only be right to bring Africa to Knoxville, just love on us as we continue to figure out how.
My biggest question these past few weeks as we’ve planned is how can I make this the most special day you’ve ever had. Being the socialite that your mommy is, I asked on a poll on Instagram and Facebook and Facebook came through with deep wisdom. As much as I want you to feel special and know that we love you, your only one and doing the most will be super sweet but super wasteful if you don’t remember it.
In saying that, you know your daddy is still a little extra, so don’t expect anything but the best… with Mommy’s limits!
Reflecting on the past 11 months with you in my life is wild. My life isn’t what I imagined it would be but because you’re in it, my life honestly feels better. Am I exhausted as hell? Yes. Do I get as much done in a day as I use to? No. But am I more strategical, more organized, and more intentional about my time since you’ve been in it?Yes. Don’t get me wrong, you’ve brought me to my knees, and as awful as that sounds, it’s honestly beautiful because it brought me to God.
You have been my consistent clause in every prayer, “God I ask you to please open this door, but if you don’t do anything outside of what you’ve already done in giving me Alina, I will still be grateful.” Alina, you are mommy’s gratitude.
With days left until you’re officially in the “big girl phase”, the years are proving to be short, and the nights long, but I wish there was a way we could switch those around but I digress. As we countdown and reflect, you do what you do best and consistently make me grateful that I am your mom.
Here’s to our forever grateful countdown.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN MONTH 11
Sleeping basic:
At 11months you should find that your baby typically sleep about 11 hours at night (mainly traight through) and take two daily naps that add up to three to four hours.
Feeding basics
Your baby should be eating ¼ to ½ cup each of grains, fruit and veggies, ¼ to ½ cup of dairy foods and ¼ to ½ cup of protein foods per day. You can still offer your baby 16 to 24 oz of breast milk or formula a day
Guess What?
Now's the perfect time to start teaching your little one some basic differences between what’s right and what’s wrong.
WHAT TO EXPECT 11 MONTHS POSTPARTUM
Iron Intake
Iron is a must-have nutrient for making the hemoglobin in red blood cells that shuttles oxygen from the lungs to cells throughout the body. When our iron levels dip, there's less hemoglobin to carry the oxygen around. Fortunately, iron is easily replenished with supplments and food.
Skin Changes
Although they will never fully disappear, your stretchmarks should have faded by this point. According to Parents, stretchmarks usually start out red and will lighten within a year. There are many topical treatments marketed for use on stretchmarks, but your best bet, if they bother you, is to talk to a dermatologist.
Balance
You've probably learnt to balance your new exciting life as a working mommy. Be proud and flaunt it! If your anything like me youve found your feet and are balancing multiple aspects of your life, in full woman mode! #GOYOU
