Throughout my pregnancy, I wanted to find a way to really tap into “pregnancy self-care”, and finding a way to mentally and physically take care of me.
Luckily, Knoxville is a great place for moms to truly tap into finding their self-care rhythm.
From the businesses to the natural beauty that surrounds the area, there are multiple ways to take time out and and reconnect with yourself and your baby.
Feeling Beautiful During Your Pregnancy
I have no pictures of the first few months of my pregnancy. I went through a very awkward stage of feeling bloated and just far from beautiful.
Instead of my skin glowing, it broke out for the first few weeks, not to mention how I was physically feeling. I went through a lot of morning sickness and nausea and feeling sexy felt impossible.
As I got my groove back in month 5, I was ready to tackle the world and really show the sexy, sassy side of pregnancy and how good you can feel when you focus on pregnancy self care.
One of the first things I wanted to do was figure out what was the first beauty treatment I could do to practice pregnancy self care.
And one of the things that always makes me feel cute is lashes!
At 30 weeks pregnant, I as ready to enjoy the last few weeks of my pregnancy and do it while looking cute.
I took a trip to Asia Kay’s Salon to get me right.
Asia Kay Salon is a Knoxville based lash business ran by Bri Loveridge, a beauty coach and business owner.
When booking my appointment, I was slightly apprehensive, I can’t lie friends.
At 30 weeks pregnant lying flat on my back to do my lashes seemed like a big, uncomfortable task and not the type of self-care I needed while pregnant.
I had so many questions!
I didn’t want to inconvenience the lash tech in no way but I asked a lot of questions before confirming my appointment.
Dear Momma’s 2 be.
Never feel afraid to ask questions before getting a beauty treatment. There may be a lot that we are still able to do, but it is essential to know the type of pregnancy self care you can’t do depending on how far along you are.
Here are a few questions that I asked:
- I can't lie flat on my back for more than 10-20mins, are there other positions we can do my lashes in?
- Is there anything I have to worry about in terms of products that you use that could potentially harm the baby?
- I am 30 weeks pregnant and would probably like an infill in the next 4-6 or so weeks, is it wise to do my lashes this late on in my pregnancy?
- Have you worked on a heavily pregnant client before?
- During the pandemic what precautions are you taking at your salon to ensure the saftey of your clients?
I was so nervous to ask all these questions, but knew if I was going to have the luxury experience I wanted, it was essential to find out how her business catered to pregnant women trying to enjoy a day of self-care.
Bri was amazing at answering all my questions and her previous experience of working on pregnant women definitely made me comfortable.
For different lash sessions you can want different experiences. Sometimes you want to chat and have a really great girlie time. For others you may want more of a quiet spa like experience.
Usually, I am all about the chit chat but for this session I really wanted to have a full on spa experience.
And the Asia Kay Salon definitely provided.
Her salon is based in her home and during a pandemic I was slightly apprehensive about that but from the moment I walked in, her salon had multiple signs of how to remain safe for both the lash tech and the client.
Which obviously made me feel so good!
She had multiple sanitizing stations and also provided really cute, hand made masks, that were surprisingly comfortable.
We began our session with some essential oils- my fave, and attempted different positions before confirming what would feel the most comfortable to remain in for at least a 20minutes.
Luckily for me, she had already prepped multiple positions that we could work in and our time figuring out what would work best was extremely quick and very efficient.
We got started at roughly 6:45pm and was finished by 8:25pm!
Between the extremely comfortable bed, and mountains of blankets I took a great nap and woke up feel revived and refreshed with flawless lashes.
My pregnancy self care day was a success!
For most of our appointment Bri completely catered to my need of making this a luxury, spa-day-like experience.
Once my treatment was over I was sure to ask her a few questions to provide you all with the tea behind her Knoxville based business and how she creates luxury intimate moments for her pregnant clients in need of a self-care day.
How long have you been in the lash industry?
8 years going on 9
I know you call yourself more than just a lash business owner, how would you describe your overall brand?
Yes! I’m not just a lash business owner but also a “soulful beauty coach”, and lash trainer. I love to do all things in the field of lashes, but after my years of experience I wanted to help encourage and grow other women’s businesses and that is why I now do coaching.
How would you say your business caters to pregnant women and moms in full-time work.
I try my best to be as flexible as possible. Especially for moms working full-time. Everyone deserves self-care and pregnant momma’s and moms in general deserve the opportunity to feel good throughout their pregnancy, and if there is anything I can do to help cater to that. I want to do it.
Also, having an in-house salon definitely makes a difference! As you can see my salon is located on the bottom level of my house. It is really spacious and gives the big-business salon feel while providing the perfect homey feel. I think a lot of moms would love it because of the balance it provides and the comfort of still feeling like your at home getting a luxury service.
Knoxville offers a world of pregnancy self-care businesses and I’m so excited to go on an adventure and explore them!
I can honestly say that getting my lashes done was the perfect welcome in to the 30th week of my pregnancy!
Asia Kay Salon provided me with exactly what I needed for my first official pregnancy self-care day.
Huge thanks to Bri & Asia Kay for being so willing to cater to me and my bump ♡.
