For roughly ten year’s I’ve wanted to loc my hair. I wasn’t sure why, I just knew that I felt called to do it. For my friends who may not know why locs are such a “big thing” or the significance of loc’ing your hair let me start with that.
The significance of loc’s varies, while for some it has a heavy connection to spiritual connotations, to others it’s just a hairstyle. At the moment, I personally fit slap bang in the middle of both while also being in need of an easy permanent hairstyle for a working mom.
For black and mixed moms I wanted to give you an alternative hairstyle that you can make extremely cute and manageable. I’m also excited to share my journey with you, considering how much I love my curls and love to switch it up, this is going to be a very interesting adjustment.
This blog post will help provide ladies planning to venture on the loc journey, the insight they need on what to expect.
- Starting Loc’s With Two Strand Twists
I loved starting my loc’s on two strand twists, I did something a little different and free-parted my hair and twisted the pieces that felt right to twist together. In some ways, I guess I intuitively twisted the parts that felt right two be joined. Now obviously I made sure that I wasn’t tangling and intertwining random pieces together, I made sure that it made sense, I just didn’t use a comb.
2. Loc’s Extremely Convenient For Working Mom!
Loc’s are easy to manage and are the most perfect get-up-and-go style. With multiple changes that you can make with them, not only are they cute when down but versatile to do multiple styles. If you’re a mom like me that loves to switch it up, it may be time for you to get loc’d

3. Watch Your Hair & Spirit Flourish!
I’ve been loc’d for almost two weeks and I’ve already seen and felt the difference in my hair. It feels stronger and is holding in moisture a lot better. After a few days of using my normal oil-grape seed oil, I kind of felt the heaviness of the oil. Instead of using it, I decided to stick with Aloe Water and Rose Water, I can honestly say that that is the one reason behind my bouncing twists y’all!
Nothing is worse than dull hair that has nobody so for now, aloe water and rose water are my go-to. I’ll check back in with you when I’m one-month loc’d.
